Scientific evidence highlights the potential benefits of being physically active during pregnancy, not only for pregnant women’s or foetus’ health, but also provides a long-term legacy of well-being for the child. Despite the multiple evidence, most pregnant women reduce their physical activity levels, failing to meet physical activity recommendations while increase the time spent in sedentary behaviours during pregnancy. Moreover, the number of pregnant women who reduce both frequency and intensity of exercise are still high. The promotion of physical activity and exercise during pregnancy and postpartum is essential to guarantee their proved benefits on health and quality of life for the two generations.

Based on high impact projects such as ‘Barakat model’ from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, ‘GestaFit project’ from the University of Almería and the University of Granada, ‘The PregnActive project’ from the University of Seville and the University Pablo de Olavide, the webinar will show how scientific knowledge can shape practical guidelines for developing of supervised and non-supervised exercise programas, promoting healthy lifestyle changes, and developing a comprehensive treatment from the primary and specific health care settings.
